Crime surge in regime-held areas | Child beaten to death by his mother and stepfather

Reliable sources have uncovered a new crime that took place in regime-controlled areas, in light of the escalating security vacuum and chaos spreading across Syria.

SOHR reliable sources have reported that a five-year-old female child was killed by her mother and her stepfather. The child who is known by her initials as (J. A.) has been transferred to Al-Basel Hospital in Homs city by her mother who citied the young girl fell from high building. However, investigations revealed that the child had been severely beaten by her stepfather who used to torture her according to sources. The man and his wife have been arrested and are undergoing investigations.

Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) has documented 23 premeditated murders since early 2022 due to family violence, and other known reasons, that left four children under the age of 18, five young women aged 18 years, and ten men killed.

The death toll of victims are distributed as follows:

• A young woman and a man in the capital, Damascus
• A child, baby girl, old man and a young man in Rif Dimashq
• A man and two women from Tartous,
• An infant, two young men and a woman in Hama province,
• A young woman and a female child and baby boy and three men in Al-Suwaydaa province
• A man in Al-Mayadeen city in Deir Ezzor province
• An infant in Aleppo
• A child with special need in Daraa
• A female child in Homs
