ISIS dramatic escalation | Nearly 30 regime soldiers and Iranian-backed militiamen killed and wounded in Syrian Desert

As ISIS cells escalate their activity across Syrian desert, targeting regime forces and Syrian fighters operating under the banner of Iranian-backed militias over the course of a week, the Syrian Observatory sources have documented the killing of 11 regime soldiers and local Iranian-backed militias and the injury of 17 others.

According to SOHR sources, ISIS cells killed six regime soldiers and five members of Iranian-backed Al-Baqir militia,” most of the casualties killed and injured in sporadic attacks carried out by ISIS members on Homs-Mahin road, in Deir Ezzor desert, and Jabal Al-Omar area in the eastern countryside of Homs, where ISIS cells are active and escalate their attacks.

Meanwhile, Russian fighter jets have executed nearly 800 airstrikes on different areas in the Syrian desert since early February.

Since 24th of March 2019, SOHR has documented the death of at least 1,654 regime soldiers and loyalists of Syrian and non-Syrian nationalities, including at least three Russians, and 165 Iranian-backed militiamen of non-Syrian nationalities. All were killed in attacks, bombings and ambushes by the “Islamic State”, west of Euphrates region and the deserts of Deir Ezzor, al-Raqqah, Homs, al-Suwaidaa, Hama and Aleppo.

Also, four civilians working in gas fields, tens of shepherds and other civilians were killed and documented by SOHR in the same period, from late March 2019 until today. They were killed in attacks by ISIS cells. While 1,172 ISIS members were also killed in attacks and bombardment in the same period.
