SOHR: More than 333 People Killed In February Across Syria
At least 333 people, mostly civilians, have lost their lives in February alone due to ongoing war across Syria, a human rights watchdog said on Tuesday, calling on all sides to cease the war.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) in a statement said that out of 333 people, 161 are civilians among them 34 children under the age of 18, and 11 women over the age of 18.
33 civilians, including 16 children and two men were killed in a blast caused by the explosive remnants of war, while 21 civilians, including a child, were killed by unidentified armed men.
According to the statement, another ten civilians, including two women and a child, were killed in “honor killings”, family and factional rivalries, and indiscriminate gunfire.
“27 civilians, including four children and four women, were killed in shelling and gunfire by regime forces, and five civilians, including a child and a woman, were killed in murders,” the statement added.
Meanwhile, five civilians, including three children, were killed in unknown circumstances, while three civilians, two children and a woman died of poor health conditions.
The SOHR also reported about regime torture, saying 45 civilians, including a child, died under torture in regime prisons, and two civilians, including a child, were killed by the Turkish border guard forces “Jandarma”, and two more children were killed in Turkish bombardment.
At the same time, 32 regime security forces were killed and 39 Islamic State (IS) militants were killed during the span of one month, SOHR reported.
According to SOHR, five militiamen of the Lebanese Hezbollah and Iranian-backed militias were killed in attacks with surface-to-surface missiles fired from Israel.
The casualties occurred after Israel forces targeted a weapon and ammunition shipment belonging to the Lebanese Hezbollah and Iranian-backed militias. However, the nationalities of those killed in the attack remained unknown.
The Human rights watchdog called on the international community to work hard to stop the bloodshed in Syria. “The people of Syria have been facing tyranny and oppression in their noble endeavor and cause to obtain justice, democracy, freedom and equality,” the statement added.
The Syrian Observatory renewed its commitment to continue monitoring and documenting all the developments on the ground in Syria including, the massacres, violations, war crimes and crimes against humanity committed against the Syrian people.
SOHR said they are working hard, hoping their ongoing efforts yield positive results in bringing the perpetrators to special international courts, so that they do not escape justice for the crimes they committed against the people of Syria.
