SOHR: Fire Brakes Out at Syria’s al-Hol Camp
A fire incident on Sunday was reported in al-Hol camp, in northeast of Syria, no casualties were confirmed, a monitor said.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) said that the fire engulfed four tents, one of which belonged to a woman working with humanitarian organizations in the camp.
However, the Britain-based monitoring group added, no people were hurt in the fire incident.
“SOHR sources have confirmed that the reasons behind the fire remained unknown, but security sources said that ISIS families have deliberately set fire to the woman’s tent to kill her,” SOHR reported.
Iraqi National Security Advisor Qasim al-Araji warned on Thursday that children of Islamic State (IS) fighters in al-Hol camp could pose a “real threat” if the situation there is not addressed.
Earlier the month, unidentified armed men attempted to abduct two guards of the camp, as a result of which a 10-year-old child was killed.
SOHR said on Thursday that Iraq repatriated 800 refugees from neighboring Syria who had been displaced since 2014 when the Islamic State attacked the country.
