SOHR: The Russian pilot who was captured by Ukraine .. “bombed the cities of Syria” and appeared in a picture with Putin and Bashar al-Assad

Syrian opposition sources said that a Russian pilot, whose plane was shot down in Ukraine and captured by the Ukrainian forces, participated in the bombing of Syrian cities during the air campaign launched by Moscow to support the regime of Bashar al-Assad.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said that the arrested pilot was named “Krasnoyartsev”, according to what was reported by the official Ukrainian media.

The captured Russian pilot appeared in a photo with Russian President Vladimir Putin during his visit to the Russian Hmeimim base on the Syrian coast, accompanied by the head of the Syrian regime, Bashar al-Assad, and some Russian pilots, “who participated in the destruction of Syrian cities and the killing of their people,” according to the observatory.

Since the capture of the Russian pilot and the circulation of his photos, comparisons between him and that pilot in the photo with Putin and Assad at the Russian military base in Syria immediately spread.

And media sites in Eastern Europe published a video of the captured pilot, and the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense published a video of the downing of his plane over the city of Chernigov.

On Saturday, media and social media accounts broadcast video clips showing what they said had “captured a Russian pilot” after his plane was shot down.

The observatory said that during its air campaign in Syria, the Russian forces killed 8,683 civilians, including 2,108 children, during about 6 and a half years of their military participation in Syria.
