Syrian mercenaries | “25th Division” fighters prepared to join Russian-Ukrainian war
Sources of the Russian-backed “8th Brigade” deny any intention to send its fighters to fight beside Russia in its war against Ukraine, while Iranian-backed factions till now have no plan to take part in the ongoing war.
However, SOHR sources have reported that Syrian fighters affiliated to the regime-backed “ 25th Division” that is led by Sohil Al-Hassan are ready to fight alongside Russia and the registration process is underway for mercenaries who will join the Russian “Wagner Group”, but till the moment no fighter has been dispatched to Ukraine.
On Tuesday, SOHR pointed out to some media reports focusing on sending Syrian fighters to Ukraine. The reports talk about the Syrian fighters who are serving under the “National Army” factions and turned into mercenaries to fighter outside the Syrian borders for Turkey or the Russian allies. The first group of fighters will fight against Russia while the second will fight against Ukraine.
However, SOHR activists have not been able to confirm the reports of the participation of Syrian mercenaries in the Russian-Ukrainian war yet, and their capabilities of participating in such armed struggle.
On the other hand, SOHR sources stressed that the registration process is underway for the fighters who want to travel to Ukraine and take part in the military operation either by the National Army factions or the Russian-backed mercenaries. The sources also reported that Chechnya jihadists in Idlib are prepared to head to Ukraine to fight against the Russian side. However, no fighters are known to have left for Ukraine yet.
