SOHR: Iran Threatens Israel After Two Revolutionary Guards Killed in Syria

Iranian authorities said on Wednesday the deaths of two Revolutionary Guards in an Israeli air strike in Syria on Monday would not go unpunished.

In addition to the two members of this elite body of the Iranian army, the Israeli strike on Damascus on Monday left two other dead, presented as civilians by the official Syrian media but identified as members of Syrian militias supported by the Iran by the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR), based in London.

Holding Israel responsible for such attacks “is one of the main goals of the resistance (forces) in the region,” the Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman said on Wednesday.

In a press release published on their site, Sepah News, the Revolutionary Guards specify that the funeral of the two colonels from their ranks killed in the attack on Monday will take place this Wednesday and specify that Israel “will pay for this crime”.

According to the SOHR, Monday’s strike – which targeted an arms and ammunition depot near Damascus airport – was the seventh launched by Israel on Syria since the beginning of the year.

Israel, which has carried out hundreds of airstrikes since the start of the civil war in Syria in 2011, rarely comments on these operations.
