Escalating security chaos in south Syria | Unknown assailants attack regime checkpoint in Al-Suwaidaa

Al-Suwaidaa province: Reliable SOHR sources have reported that an armed group has attacked a checkpoint of regime forces in Al-Suwaidaa, where clashes erupted between soldiers stationed at the checkpoint and the attackers. However, no casualties have been reported.

On the other hand, security members stationed at a checkpoint at the junction of the museum in Al-Suwaidaa city have confiscated cars whose drivers have no ownership documents.

Since morning, regime soldiers and security services have been put on high security alert in Al-Suwaidaa city, amid reports of an imminent large-scale security campaign to arrest security suspects and confiscate unlicensed and stolen cars.

SOHR sources reported earlier today that a group of people and local gunmen blocked the road to Al-Mazraah town in the western countryside of Al-Suwaidaa by setting fire to rubber tyres, expressing their rejection of the visit of the Al-Suwaidaa governor to their town. A meeting between the governor and members of Al-Baath party was scheduled to be held today in Al-Mazraah town.

According to Syrian Observatory sources, regime forces deployed more troops and in front of the governorate building in Al-Suwaidaa city. This development coincided with the ongoing blocking of Al-Mazraah-Al-Suwaidaa road by residents and local groups.
