ISIS attacks in Syrian desert | Over 50 regime soldiers and affiliated militiamen killed and injured since early March 2022

Since early March, SOHR has documented the killing of 24 regime soldiers and militiamen loyal to them and the injury of 29 others, in attacks carried out by ISIS members in the Syrian desert. The details of these attacks are categorised by date as follows:

 

 

  • March 4: A vehicle carrying three regime soldiers came under armed attack near Sabkhat Al-Malah area, east of Palmyra, in the eastern countryside of Homs, killing all of them.

 

  • March 6: ISIS waged an attack near T3 station in Palmyra desert, east of Homs, killing 15 regime soldiers and injuring 18 others.

 

  • March 10: A group of landmines planted earlier by ISIS members exploded near Jabal Al-Amor in Palmyra desert, east of Homs, killing six militiamen of “Liwaa Al-Quds” backed by regime and injuring seven others.

 

The explosion of old landmines planted by ISIS also injured at least four regime soldiers at  Aleppo-Hama-Al-Raqqah triangle during combing campaigns conducted by the regime forces and militants loyal to them searching for ISIS members.

 

According to SOHR statistics, the death toll of military operations in the Syrian desert since January 2022 is 136; and they are:

 

  • 69 ISIS members were killed in Russian airstrikes on areas in Homs desert, Al-Suwaydaa, Hama, Al-Raqqah, Deir Ezzor and Aleppo.

 

  • 67 regime forces and militias loyal to them were killed in 21 ISIS attacks, ambushes, and bombings in western Euphrates, Deir Ezzor, Al-Raqqah, Homs, Al-Suwaydaa, Hama and Aleppo.
