Fierce attacks in Al-Raqqah desert | ISIS attempts to cut supply lines to the desert, while Russian jets escalate their operations

Russian fighter jets executed nearly ten airstrikes on ISIS positions and members in Al-Rasafah desert in southern Al-Raqqah, bringing the number of their airstrikes in the past 24 hours on Al-Raqqah desert to nearly 25.

The Russian airstrikes coincided with ongoing clashes between ISIS members and regime forces near Kherbet Al-Muqamin village in Al-Rasafah desert, which is the main line of supply to regime forces in advanced positions in the Syrian desert, as ISIS members have been attempting to cut regime supply lines.

Yesterday, SOHR sources reported that violent clashes erupted between ISIS cells on one hand, and regime-backed militias of the 18th Division and the 25th Division near Khirbet Al-Muqamin village in Al-Rasafah desert in the southern Al-Raqqah countryside, which is the main supply line for the regime forces in the Syrian desert.

This attack coincided with airstrikes by Russian fighter jets that back regime forces by repelling ISIS attacks and target ISIS cells in the area with several airstrikes.

Since early March, SOHR has documented the death of 24 regime soldiers and proxy militiamen and the injury of 29 others, in attacks carried out by ISIS members in the Syrian desert.
