“Temporary protection card deactivated” | Thousands of Syrian refugees in Turkey receive warning text messages

SOHR warns against clamping down on Syrian refugees in Turkey with the aim of driving them to the “safe zone” which suffers from deteriorating security situation

 

Reliable sources have told SOHR that the Directorate General of Migration Management in Turkey has sent text messages yesterday to thousands of Syrian refugees living in Turkey with the temporary protection card ”Kimlik,” informing them of deactivating the cards of these who have received the text message and have not registered their residency in specific provinces yet. This comes at a time when Syrian refugees in Turkey have faced many challenges prevented them from registering the place of their residency, the most prominent of which was the fact that the names of other people had been registered in houses inhabited now by Syrian refugees who rented these houses, as well as the inability to add more refugees due to inaccurate information in the ”Kimlik” documents and inability to list some neighbourhoods prohibited by the Turkish government to be inhabited by Syrian citizens.

 

This procedure comes as a part of the Turkish government’s efforts to indiscriminately sent every Syrian citizen commits any type of violations to north Syria, whether in Aleppo or Idlib countryside.

 

We, at the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR), warns against forcible deportation of Syrian refugees and call for protecting the rights of Syrian refugees in Turkey.
