SOHR: CASUALTIES REPORTED FOLLOWING NEW ATTACK BY ISIS CELLS IN CENTRAL SYRIA

Late on April 28, ISIS cells attacked positions of the Regime forces and its allies in Mount al-Bishri which lays along the administrative border between Raqqa and Deir Ezzor in Syria’s central region.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said that the attack lasted until the early hours of April 29. ISIS terrorists used heavy weapons in the attack.

According to the London-based monitoring group, 12 service remembers of the regime forces and its allies were wounded in the attack. While no fatalities were reported, some of the wounded are in a critical condition.

In what appears to be a response to the attack on Mount al-Bishri, warplanes of the Russian Aerospace Forces carried out on April 29 at least 30 airstrikes on hideouts of ISIS in the southern Raqqa countryside and the eastern countryside of Homs.

A day earlier, a series of ten Russian airstrikes targeted hideouts of ISIS in different parts of central Syria. The airstrikes were also a response to an attack by ISIS cells in the region.

Russian warplanes have carried out more than 530 airstrikes on ISIS’s personnel, equipment and hideouts in central Syria since the beginning of April. There is still no information on the results of these airstrikes.

The recent attacks on the regime forces and its allies in central Syria were a part of a large-scale military campaign that ISIS launched on April 17 to avenge its former leader and spokesman who died during a US raid in Syria’s northwestern region early on in the year. The campaign is codenamed “The Battle of Revenge for the Killing of the Two Sheikhs”.
