Arrested four years ago | Young man from Homs dies under torture and poor medical care in Saydnaya prison

SOHR activists have documented the death of a young man from Al-Hula area in the northern countryside of Homs, under torture and medical negligence in Saydnaya military prison after suffering from tuberculosis.

The victim had been arrested in December 2018 and died a year ago, but his family reported his death several days ago from a former prisoner who was recently released from detention.

According to Syrian Observatory sources, the victim had served in the regime’s army and deserted from army service in 2012, but preferred to not escape and to strike a “settlement” deal following the regime’s control of the northern countryside of Homs in 2018.

Accordingly, the number of civilians who died under torture in regime prisons which has been documented by the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights since the beginning of 2022 has risen to 65 including a dissident army officer and 38 people from Eastern Ghouta whose death certificates were delivered by regime to their families in February.
