SOHR: What is behind the raising of the regime’s flag at the Nusaybin border crossing with Turkey

The Syrian regime’s media spoke official His forces raised the Syrian flag on the roundabout of the “Nassibin” border crossing with Turkey, and the roundabout of the “Great Mosque” next to the Al-Karajat area, north of Qamishli.

According to what Enab Baladi’s correspondent reported in Qamishli, today, May 1, raising the regime’s flag does not add any change at the field level in the area, because the crossing is closed from the Turkish side.

The second area in which the regime’s flag was raised on the northern highway is controlled by the Syrian regime, while the “Syrian Democratic Forces” (SDF) control the vicinity of the area.

On the other hand, the area of the roundabout “Nassibin Crossing” is considered a neutral area that is not under the control of the “SDF” or the regime, as it is a completely deserted area, according to what Enab Baladi’s correspondent reported.

Adel, 35, a member of the “Internal Security” forces (Asayish) of the SDF, stationed in the Souq al-Hal area near the “Great Mosque” roundabout, told Enab Baladi that the regime’s presence is limited to science only, and there will be no members standing on the aforementioned vertigo.

The element attributed the raising of the flag, according to the hadiths reported in the region, to the attempts of the “SDF” to prevent the Turkish “gendarmerie” (border guards) from firing bullets towards their points as they are under the regime’s influence.

The only change that occurred through the recent regime and SDF procedures is the opening of the road connecting between the “Great Mosque” roundabout and the “Souk al-Hal” area.

Meanwhile, the governor of Hasaka, Ghassan Halim Khalil, denied the Syrian regime’s intention to reopen the “Nassibin” border crossing with Turkey in Qamishli, saying that talking about this is “media” talk.

The “Nassibin” crossing links the Turkish border with Syria from the Qamishli side, and it has been completely closed since the start of the Syrian revolution, and only international aid enters through it in rare cases.
