Walid Jumblatt: We want a Lebanese president, not a president who is a tool in the hands of the Syrians and the Iranians

The head of the “Progressive Socialist Party” in Lebanon, Walid Jumblatt, said that his party is fighting a political battle against the Lebanese “Hezbollah” militia that supports the Syrian regime and Iran.

Jumblatt, in statements reported by the newspaper, Qabas, stressed that his party is waging a political battle against Hezbollah, accusing Syria and Iran of playing a key role in the battle being waged against it.

He considered that “the electoral battle is never equal, in light of the hegemony of Hezbollah, which has weapons, but in the end we are waging a political battle, and we hope that our political voice will have a balanced presence in the next parliament, in order to tell (Hezbollah), Syria and Iran that Things cannot be managed this way.”

He added that “there is a Syrian role with Iran in the electoral battle that is being waged against it.”

Regarding his perception of the next president, he said: “The important thing is for there to be a Lebanese president, not a president who is a tool in the hands of the Syrians and the Iranians.”

With the approaching election date scheduled for next May 15, the electoral heat is rising in the Baalbek-Hermel district in the Bekaa, as the “Hezbollah” militia seeks to win the ten parliamentary seats representing the region and prevent any violation of its Shiite environment.

“Hezbollah” operates under the command of the Iranian regime in Lebanon, Syria and Iraq, and is considered a state within a state in Lebanon and controls, through its uncontrolled weapons, political and military decisions.
