Second attack in less than week | Airstrikes hit Iranian-backed militia positions in Deir Ezzor

Deir Ezzor province: Several explosions have been heard on Saturday morning in the city of Deir Ezzor and its surroundings which are under the control of the regime forces and Iranian-backed militias.

These explosions have been caused by airstrikes by an unidentified military aircraft that hit Iranian-backed militia positions in Hawija Katia area and “Al-Jisr Al-Jadid Al-Tourabi.”

However, no further details about human and material losses have been reported yet. The identity of the aircraft that targeted the area is not known. This is the second attack in less than a week.

On May 1, SOHR activists reported that unidentified warplanes executed airstrikes on military positions of Iranian militias in Al-Ashara desert in Deir Ezzor countryside, where at least five loud explosions were heard due to airstrikes. However, no casualties were reported.

It is worth noting that this is the third case of targeting on western Euphrates area in 2022.

On January 6, “unidentified” drones renewed their airstrikes on Iranian proxies’ positions in the western Euphrates region, targeting military positions in Al-Tabni area and Al-Masrab desert in the western countryside of Deir Ezzor, causing material damage and casualties.

While on January 4, reliable sources informed SOHR of hearing loud explosions in areas under the control of Iran-backed factions in east Deir Ezzor in west Euphrates area.

The airstrikes that were conducted by unknown drones targeted hideouts of Iranian loyal factions in the vicinity of Mazaraa neighbourhood, Mazar Ain Aly, that is stationed on the outskirts of Al-Qouriyah city in Al-Esharah desert in east Deir Ezzor.
