Military escalation | Regime and Iranian-backed militias shell vicinity of Koniko gas field in Deir Ezzor countryside

Deir Ezzor province: SOHR sources have reported that a rocket shell from areas controlled by regime forces and Iranian-backed militias in the vicinity of Deir Ezzor city has landed on SDF-held areas east of Euphrates in Deir Ezzor countryside, hitting the area of Koniko gas field. This development comes following the airstrikes by unidentified aircraft that hit Hawija Katia area and “Al-Jisr Al-Jadid Al-Tourabi.” on Saturday morning.

It is worth noting that the Iranian-backed militias opened a bridge linking the seven villages east of Euphrates to their areas under their control west of Euphrates on January 16. The residents there used to travel between the two banks of Euphrates via “Russian passenger ferry” for free.

SOHR activists have just reported hearing Several explosions on Saturday morning in the city of Deir Ezzor and its surroundings, which are under the control of the regime forces and Iranian-backed militias.

These explosions have been caused by airstrikes by an unidentified military aircraft that hit Iranian-backed militia positions in Hawija Katia area and “Al-Jisr Al-Jadid Al-Tourabi.”

However, no further details about human and material losses have been reported yet. The identity of the aircraft that targeted the area is not known. This is the second attack in less than a week.

On May 1, SOHR activists reported that unidentified warplanes executed airstrikes on military positions of Iranian militias in Al-Ashara desert in Deir Ezzor countryside, where at least five loud explosions were heard due to airstrikes. However, no casualties were reported.
