SOHR: Seven Dead, Hundreds Injured As Severe Sandstorm Hits Syria

At least seven people died and more than 200 were injured after  powerful sandstorms swept across eastern Syria.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) said that the dust storms toppled trees, damaged homes, and took the life of seven people, including two children and a woman due to breathing problems in Deir Ezzor province.

“Over 200 people, including women and children were injured and dozens of people treated in hospitals for respiratory ailments due to unprecedented sandstorms,” SOHR said in a statement.

According to SOHR, its team on Sunday documented the deaths of four people, including a man and a little girl in Al-Joura neighborhood in Deir Ezzor province.

The unprecedented dust storms, accompanied by strong winds, also left many houses partially damaged in the province. The dust storms also caused substantial damage to the public and government properties.

The Arab Regional Weather Center said that the storm is expected to sweep parts of Saudi Arabia and Kuwait today evening.
