Assassination attempt | Most prominent ex-leader of Daraa factions targeted by IED attack

Daraa province: SOHR activists have reported an assassination attempt has been made against one of the most prominent former leaders of the factions during factions’ control over Daraa.

The former leader had joined the ranks of regime security services after the regime took control of Daraa and struck a settlement and reconciliation deal.

An IED has exploded in Al-Manshiyah neibourhood in Daraa Al-Balad in Daraa city, leaving the escort of the leader killed and a man injured.

Since early 2022, the number of attacks in Daraa province has risen to 205, which left 159 people dead; and they are as follows:
• 78 civilians, including two women and four children.
• 63 regime military personnel, “collaborators” with security services and members with settled-status working for regime services and backed militias.
• Ten former fighters who did not join any military formation, after striking reconciliation deals.
• An ex-ISIS member.
• Six unidentified people.
• A Russian-backed militiaman.
