Combating Iranian expansion in Syria | Local commander in Iranian-backed militia survives assassination attempt in west Euphrates
Deir Ezzor province: Reliable sources in areas controlled by Iranian-backed militias in west Euphrates region, the “autonomous colony” for Iranians in Syrian territory, have reported an assassination attempt. The sources have told SOHR that two unknown gunmen on a motorcycle opened fire on a commander of the IRGC-backed local militia of “Liwaa Al-Sheikh” near Al-Rahbah fortress in Al-Mayadeen city in the eastern countryside of Deir Ezzor. The attack caused material damage only to the commander’s car. This comes as a part of combating the considerable expansion of Iranian forces and affiliated militias throughout Syria.
On May 4, reliable sources informed SOHR that members of the security service of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) arrested two members of the National Defence Forces (NDF) in Al-Shalabi area in Al-Mayadeen city in the eastern countryside of Deir Ezzor near weapons warehouses of IRGC under suspicion of “filming the warehouses and spying for enemies.”
