Protesting release of regime soldier | Protesters close Military Police directorate in Al-Bab city

SOHR activists have reported that dozens of residents and displaced people in Al-Bab city in the eastern countryside of Aleppo have closed the directorate of “Military Police” in Al-Bab city, protesting the release of a regime soldier by Military Police for a ransom of 1,500 USD.

Days earlier, “Military Police” arrested the soldier once again following the popular protests that took place in Al-Bab city, where the protesters demand commanders of “National Army,” who area involved in the release of the regime soldier for ransom, be held accountable.

According to Syrian Observatory activists, the people have set fires to tyres in front of the entrance to “Military Police” building and announced the closure of the “Military Police” directorate until further notice, demanding that leaders of the “Military Police” must hold accountable because the regime soldier who confessed that he committed crimes of killing civilians and the rape of women during his service with the Syrian regime forces.

The people accused the leaders of the “Military Police” of being loyal and belonging to the Syrian regime, the Fourth Division and Al-Shabiha of the regime.

Accordingly, the people declared the closure of the “Military Police” building until military police held accountable all those involved in the release of the regime soldiers.

 

On May 18, SOHR activists reported that dozens of civilians went on the streets in protests against military police in Al-Bab city in the eastern countryside of Aleppo, rejecting the release of a regime soldier, who is accused of crimes against civilians and rapes, by Military Police for a ransom of 1,500 USD.

Military police released the regime soldier after Al-Sultan Murad commander had mediated the release of the detained soldier.

According to Syrian Observatory activists, the protesters expressed their rejection of the release of a regime soldier and the arrest of a young man from Al-Bab city.

Demonstrators blocked roads leading to the police building, while a group of civilians has written phrases on the walls of the police building against Military Police commanders, accusing Military Police commanders of defending Al-shabiha and releasing the killers for ransom.
