Arbitrary arrests in Afrin | Turkish Intelligence and Turkish-backed factions arrest mayor and civilian

Daraa province: SOHR activists have reported the members of a patrol of Al-Sultan Murad Faction arrested a civilian from Akidam village in Shiran district in Afrin countryside on May 18, while he was coming to his village from Aleppo and he was later released after paying ransom of unknown value.

On the other hand, members of a patrol of the Civil Police and members of the Turkish Intelligence arrested the mayor of Qorka Tahtani village in Ma’batly district on May 17, for “dealing with the former Autonomous Administration”, while residents accuse him of “dealing with Turkish forces and their proxies in Ma’batly district.”

Earlier today, SOHR activists reported that Al-Majd Corps faction, which controls Midana village in Raju district in Afrin countryside, arbitrarily arrested a civilian for unknown charges, on May 18, while he was in his way to his village from Aleppo, despite having settled his security status in Afrin.

During the past week, a Military Police patrol arrested a man from Shikhotka village in Maabatli district of Afrin countryside for “dealing with the former Autonomous-Administration” to collect ransom.
