ISIS resurgence | Gunmen execute civilian in Deir Ezzor countryside

Deir Ezzor province: SOHR activists have reported that gunmen, believed to be ISIS members, executed a civilian from Al-Zer town eastern of Deir Ezzor.

According to reliable SOHR sources, the civilian is accused of “carrying out robberies”, where his body was found showing gunshots and his hands were tied.

On May 18, SOHR activists reported that unidentified gunmen fired RPG shells and machineguns on an SDF military checkpoint in the water station of Al-Zerr town in the eastern Deir Ezzor countryside, where SOHR sources confirmed that the gunmen are ISIS members, as clashes erupted between both sides with machineguns. However, no casualties were reported.

SOHR has documented 89 operations carried out by ISIS, including armed attacks and explosions, in areas under the control of the Autonomous Administration since early 2022. According to SOHR statistics, these operations left 69 persons dead: 29 civilians and 40 members of SDF, the Internal Security Forces and other military formations operating in areas under the control of the Autonomous Administration.

It is worth noting that these attacks have not included the operation of Ghuwayran prison, which left heavy losses.
