4th case in May and 20th case in 2022 in regime-held areas | Residents find new-born baby in abandoned house in Damascus

SOHR activists have reported that residents have found a baby in an abandoned building in Al-Sowan neighbourhood in Al-Ma’damiyah in Damascus, and found a paper next to him saying that his mother died hours after the baby was born.

This is the 4th case of its kind in May. However, this is the 20th case of its kind in 2022, where children were abandoned by their parents in regime-held areas, according to SOHR documents.

On May 17, reliable SOHR sources reported that residents in the neighbourhood of Al-Baldah Al-Qadimah (the Old Town) in Jadidat Al-Fadl in Rif Dimashq found a new-born baby boy left by a man in front of a house, before the man escaped. While the residents informed the police station in the town.

In May 9, SOHR sources reported that a new-born baby girl was found at the “Mohammed Al-Durrah” school in Salah Al-Din district in Aleppo city.

While on May 1, SOHR activists reported that residents found a new-born baby in agricultural land in Tirmalah village in the northern countryside of Homs. The new-born baby was transferred to Al-Walid hospital in Al-Waer neighbourhood and placed in neonatal intensive care unit. According to the residents, the child aged a few hours.
