Second incident of its kind in 24 hours | Russian jet fires air-to-air missile in the airspace of Al-Raqqah, near “Peace Spring” area

SOHR sources have reported that a Russian fighter jet fired an air-to-air missile on the frontline of Tel Abyad in the northern countryside of Al-Raqqah.

According to SOHR sources, several Russian fighter jets took off from Hmeimim airbase in latakia countryside, where they flew over Al-Hasakah and Al-Raqqah countryside, before one of them fired that missile. This is the second incident of its kind in 24 hours.

SOHR sources reported earlier today that an unidentified jet executed an airstrike, in the early hours of Thursday morning, on the vicinity of Al-Manajir town, south of Ras Al-Ain (Sere Kaniye) in “Peace Spring” area, where a Turkish post is located. However, SOHR was unable to verify if the airstrike was executed by a Russian or International Coalition fighter jet.

Moreover, Russian fighter jets carried out three rounds of airstrikes with six air-to-air missiles in the airspace of Tel Abyad and Ras Al-Ain areas in “Peace Spring” area.

SOHR sources also reported that the “Peace Spring” area and areas controlled by SDF, which are close to the frontlines in the countryside of Aleppo, Al-Hasakah and Al-Raqqah experienced frequent flights by fighter jets on Wednesday evening and on Thursday dawn. However, the identities of the fighter jets remained unknown.

Yesterday, SOHR activists reported that a Russian fighter jet executed three airstrikes with air-to-air missiles over Tel Abyad and Ras Al-Ain in “Peace Spring” area.

This came after Turkish forces brought in military reinforcements to areas in northern Al-Raqqah.

On May 24, SOHR activists monitored the arrival of a military convoy of dozens of armoured vehicles of Russian forces at their base in Ain Issa district, the “capital of the Autonomous-Administration” north of Al-Raqqah.
