Ongoing violations in Afrin | Turkish-backed factions arrest civilians on “fabricated charges” to collect ransoms

Aleppo province: SOHR activists have reported that a patrol of the Military Police arrested a civilian from Qarzihil village in Shirawa district in Afrin countryside, while he was returning to his village from Aleppo city for unknown charges on May 26.

Meanwhile, on May 26, “Al-Jabha Al-Shamiyyah” faction arrested a man from Kafr Mazzah village in Sharan district in Afrin countryside for “dealing with former Kurdish forces” to collect a ransom. “Al-Jabha Al-Shamiyyah” members took him to their headquarters in Sharan district.

On May 26, SOHR sources reported that members of the political security service arrested two civilians on May 25. The first civilian has been displaced from Aleppo city, and he was arrested for “belonging to ISIS,” while the other is from Afrin city, and he was arrested for “performing military service in the ranks of SDF during the Autonomous Administration’s control of Afrin city.”

On the other hand, the military police in Afrin city released a civilian from Kurkan Tahtani village, on Tuesday, in return for a ransom of 3,500 TL. The man had been arrested on May 17 for “dealing with the former Autonomous Administration.
