SOHR: Syria..The bodies of two young men were found and a girl was killed by her brother for “honour”

On Sunday, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported the occurrence of a crime it called “no honor”, which is that a young man killed his sister in Raqqa.

The observatory said: “A 20-year-old woman was killed by her brother in the popular Rumaila neighborhood in Raqqa, on Sunday evening, in a case under the pretext of honor.”

Local sources confirmed to the observatory that “the murdered young woman was absent from the house for two days”, and there were conflicting reports about the cause of her killing.

The sources stated that “the motive for the killing was the young woman’s absence from the house,” without revealing the location of her absence.

According to activists contacted by the Syrian Observatory in Raqqa, the killer was arrested by security forces in the area, without explaining the reason for committing the crime.

In a similar story, a citizen stabbed his sister to death, on April 14, in the Sheikh Maqsoud neighborhood of Aleppo, under the pretext of “washing shame.” The killer surrendered to the security forces.

Also in Raqqa governorate, “the bodies of two young shepherds were found killed in the vicinity of the town of Dibsi Afnan in the countryside of Raqqa, on Sunday, after their loss, Saturday,” according to the observatory.

The two dead men came from the countryside of Hama, and they herded sheep in the area.

Iranian militias control the town of Dibsi Afnan, while citizens have pointed the finger at those militias that are violating their property.

On May 16, the Syrian Observatory indicated that members of the Afghan “Fatimiyoun” militia had harvested the wheat crop in a number of agricultural lands in the villages of “Shuaib Al Dhikr”, “Dibsi Faraj” and “Dibsi Afnan” in the western countryside of Raqqa.

According to the sources of the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, these lands belong to civilians and were seized by the Fatemiyoun militia under the pretext that their civilian owners opposed the regime and left Syria.

SOHR activists reported that the Fatemiyoun militia seized large areas of agricultural land in the governorates of Raqqa and Deir ez-Zor, under the pretext that the owners of these lands left the regime-controlled areas and migrated them out of Syria.

Thus, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights has “documented the occurrence of 69 deliberate killings since the beginning of 2022, some of which were caused by domestic violence or the motives of theft, and others whose causes and motives are still unknown.”
