SOHR: Rape of a girl in Aleppo ignites a fire… mobilization, threats and bribery!

The city of Al-Bab, east of Aleppo Governorate, northern Syria, witnessed great tension after the rape of a 12-year-old girl by a restaurant owner who lured her to an abandoned building.

The girl, who was displaced from the city of Palmyra, was raped 5 days ago by a restaurant owner in the city of Al-Bab, who lured her to an abandoned building near his restaurant, and was arrested red-handed, according to what the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported yesterday evening, Monday.

He pointed out that there is a great alertness by the people of the city and the Palmyra displaced with armed men, in front of the Military Police building, threatening to escalate if the criminal is not held accountable.

This came while “influential personalities” tried to change the facts after receiving money in exchange for publishing information claiming that the girl had stolen the owner of the restaurant, and he arrested her and did not rape her, according to the observatory.

Many violations… and suspicion from the people

While audio recordings spread of people who were said to be notables from Palmyra, calling on the demonstrators to calm down and wait.

In the face of this anger, the leadership of the police and public security forces in the city of Al-Bab published a statement promising to hold the perpetrator accountable, amid the people’s skepticism.

It is noteworthy that Al-Bab is under the control of militias loyal to Turkey, and violations are often repeated, especially with the absence of accountability.
