Recently left Al-Rukban camp | “Military Security” branch arrests four young men returned to Palmyra

SOHR sources in Palmyra in the eastern countryside of Homs have reported that nearly a week ago, regime Military Security Branch of the Military Intelligence summoned four young men from Palmyra and arrested them after leaving with their families Al-Rukban camp in the eastern desert of Syria at the borders with Jordan and Iraq about a month ago.

According to Syrian Observatory sources, the young men were detained in the branch for the sixth consecutive day. However, the fate of the young men remain unknown.

It is worth noting that previously, many young men who left Al-Rukban camp for regime-controlled areas with no guarantees of anti-arrests, fleeing poor living conditions in the camp, which is besieged by Russians, regime and Iranian-backed militias, were arrested by the security forces.

It is worth noting that the cases of inhabitants leaving Al-Rukban camp escalated recently over the dreadful living conditions in the camp in light of the suspension of assistance provided by humanitarian organisations. In addition, the prices of basic products have reached levels unaffordable by the many because of levies imposed by regime checkpoints on trucks transporting food to the camp, as well as the lack of job opportunities. All these factors have turned the camp, which hosts nearly 8,500 displaced Syrian people from various provinces, into a “large prison” in the Syrian desert.
