Al-Qubeir massacre’s tenth anniversary | Nearly 60 civilians, including women and children, were killed by regime-backed “shabbiha” in Hama countryside

SOHR renews its calls for holding to account all criminals, perpetrators of violations and all those who aided and abetted killing of Syrian people, mainly Al-Assad’s regime

Today, the Syrians mark the tenth anniversary of the brutal massacre perpetrated by Syrian regime and affiliated militias on May, 6, 2012, after they stormed Al-Qubei in north-western Hama countryside, two kilometres to south of Mahradah city, which is inhabited by three families (Al-Yatem, Al-Alwan and Al-Faris).

Regime forces and shabihah stormed the village under the pretext that armed men attacked a regime military checkpoint.

According to SOHR statistics, nearly 60 civilians, including at least 18 women and children, were killed and executed by firing squad and slaughtered with knives, and some of them were cremated. The remaining residents of the small village, which had a population of only 800, were then displaced.

On the tenth anniversary of Al-Qubeir massacre in Hama countryside, we, at the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR), renew our appeals to all international actors, the international community and the UN Security Council to intervene immediately and put an end to the Syrian conflict and the suffering of the Syrian people and call upon them not to abandon their responsibility and obligations to find a lasting solution to the tragedy of millions of Syrians.

We also renew our calls for opening a non-politicised investigation by an independent international commission of inquiry on all massacres committed and bringing all criminals, perpetrators and all those who aided and abated such heinous crimes throughout Syria to justice.
