The Hebrew state is constantly launching strikes in Syria, one of which, in May, caused the death of three Syrian officers, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights. During the past years, Israel launched hundreds of air strikes in Syria, targeting Syrian army sites, Iranian targets, and targets belonging to the Lebanese Hezbollah.

Tel Aviv rarely confirms the implementation of strikes in Syria, but it reiterates that it will continue to confront what it describes as Iran’s attempts to consolidate its military presence in Syria. The Israeli army also justifies these attacks as necessary to prevent its archenemy Iran from gaining a foothold on Israel’s borders.

Tehran confirms the presence of members of its armed forces in Syria on advisory missions. Since 2013, the Lebanese Hezbollah, backed by Tehran, has been fighting openly in Syria in support of the regime’s forces.

And Syria has been engulfed since 2011 in a bloody conflict that has killed about half a million people and caused massive damage to infrastructure and led to the displacement of millions of people inside and outside the country.
