Eleven civilians, including women and children, were killed and more than 30 wounded when a landmine exploded in a pickup truck Saturday near Daraa in southern Syria, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported.

The Syrian Observatory stated that “11 people, including five children under the age of sixteen and three women, were killed and 34 others wounded when a mine exploded while their pickup truck was passing.”

He pointed out that the truck was carrying workers in the town of Deir al-Adas in the northern countryside of Daraa.

Syria recorded the largest number of mine victims in 2020 (2729 dead and wounded), ahead of Afghanistan, according to the annual report of the Landmine Monitor, which was published at the end of 2021.

In 2021, the observatory documented the killing of 241 civilians and the injury of 128 by explosive remnants in Syria.
