Collecting levies | “National Army” factions continue arresting civilians in Afrin city

Aleppo province: SOHR sources have reported that members of a patrol of the Turkish-backed faction “Ahrar Al-Sharqiyyah” arbitrary arrested a civilian from Afrin in the past week for unknown reasons. The Turkish-backed militiamen took the man, who is from Maskah village in Jendires district in west Afrin countryside in northern Aleppo, to unknown destination.

On the other hand, members of Al-Sham Corps which is close to the Turkish intelligence launched a security campaign this week in Al-Ghazzawiyah, Basoufan and Kabashin villages in Shirawa district in Afrin countryside.

During the campaign, the faction arrested three civilians, accusing them of “dealing with the former Autonomous Administration” with the aim of collecting levies.

Separately, military police released two civilians from Sharran and Jendires districts in Afrin countryside on June 8, after their families had paid levies of 1,500 to 3,500 TL. The two men had been arrested for “dealing with the former Autonomous Administration.”

On June 7, SOHR activists reported that members of a Military Police patrol arrested a displaced civilian from Damascus, after inspecting his house in Afrin in northern Aleppo, accusing him of “abetting against the Turkish energy company” by calling for the intervention of the “Rights Restitution Committee” to restore the residents’ rights. Meanwhile, the military police members accused him of “calling upon the residents to burn down offices of the Turkish company.”

On the other hand, members of Al-Jabha Al-Shamiyah faction arbitrary arrested a civilian in Afrin for “belonging to the Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG),” before he was handed to the military police in Afrin city. It is worth noting that the civilian is from Kakhira village in Ma’batly district and lives in Afrin city.
