50 airstrikes in 24 hours | Russian forces intensify aerial operations on ISIS positions in Syrian desert

SOHR sources have reported that Russian fighter jets have intensified their airstrikes in the past 24 hours, where they carried out nearly 50 airstrikes on ISIS positions and hideouts in Al-Raqqah desert.

The Russian aerial operations coincides with combing campaigns by regime forces and their proxy militias, searching for ISIS cells in the desert.

Earlier this morning, SOHR sources reported that regime forces and their proxy militias, with Russian air support, continued their large-scale combing campaign in south-east Al-Raqqah desert, searching for ISIS cells.

The campaign, which was launched after the death of 26 regime soldiers and militiamen in armed attacks by ISIS, covered the area from Jabal Al-Bishri in Al-Raqqah desert, near the administrative border with Deir Ezzor, to Al-Rasafah desert.

Yesterday, SOHR activists monitored violent clashes between regime forces and their proxies on one hand, and ISIS members on the other in Jabal Al-Bishri area in Al-Raqqah desert near the administrative border with Deir Ezzor, where violent clashes continued since the previous day, leaving heavy losses among the two parties.

These violent clashes coincided with Russian aerial bombardment in the region. Meanwhile, the death of nine regime soldiers and militiamen was confirmed, while ISIS lost members in the clashes and bombardment.

The death toll is expected to rise as the attack left several persons injured, some seriously. There are unconfirmed reports of more casualties.

Accordingly, the number of regime soldiers who were killed in and around Jabal Al-Bishri area by ISIS members in 72 hours rose to 26.

In the same context, four regime soldiers were confirmed dead in ISIS ambush in the east of Al-Dumayr military airbase in Rif Dimashq on June 21.
