Returned from Saudi Arabia two months ago | Elderly man from Al-Raqqah dies under torture in regime prisons

SOHR activists have documented the death of an elderly man from Al-Mahdoum village in Al-Khafsah area in the far western countryside of Al-Raqqah, near the administrative border with the eastern countryside of Aleppo, under torture in the regime’s prisons, following an arrest of nearly two months.

In details obtained by SOHR activists, the elderly man from Al-Walada tribe was arrested by regime security forces nearly two months ago, on charges of financing the Free Army factions, following his return to Syria from Saudi Arabia for treatment. Later, the victim’s family were informed of his death under torture.

Accordingly, the number of civilians who died under torture in regime prisons which has been documented by the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights since the beginning of 2022 has risen to 70 including two dissident army officers and 38 people from Eastern Ghouta whose death certificates were delivered by regime to their families in February.
