Regime rocket attack | Ten people injured in area in Jabal Al-Zawiyah following Turkish calls for displaced people’s return

SOHR activists have reported that more than 20 rockets fired by regime forces, targeting Al-Bara town in Jabal Al-Zawiyah in the southern countryside of Idlib, leaving ten people civilians and military personnel injured on Wednesday afternoon.

This comes a day after Russian officers met with dignitaries in Jabal Al-Zawiyah, calling for the return of the displaced people to their homes who fled the atrocities and bombardment of regime and Russian forces.

It is worth noting that Al-Bara area has not been hit by shelling for weeks.

Yesterday, SOHR activists reported that Turkish officers, headed by official of Turkish forces in Idlib province in north-western Syria, met with dignitaries and representatives of Jabal Al-Zawiyah area in the southern countryside of Idlib inside Turkish base in Billion village in southern Idlib countryside.

According to Syrian Observatory sources, Turkish officers asked the dignitaries and representatives of Jabal Al-Zawiyah areas to tell the displaced people to return to their homes and villages and promise to improve the services in Jabal Al-Zawiyah areas, which are still under the control of the factions and where there are a large number of Turkish positions and bases.

The Turkish demand for the return of the displaced people came in light of the ongoing shelling by regime forces on the area.

However, the displaced people feared that if they would return to their homes, will meet a fate of the people in northern countryside of Hama and the southern and eastern countryside of Idlib in 2019, when regime forces took control of the cities and towns successively, while Turkish forces did not move a finger, and withdrew from their bases.

On July 12, Russian fighter jets carried out three airstrikes, targeting the vicinity of the villages of Mashon and Balshoun in Jabal Al-Zawiyah near “M 4” International highway.

This development coincided with an intensive flight by Russian reconnaissance aircraft over Jabal Al-Zawiyah, Sahl Al-Ghab and Jabal Al-Akrad.

Furthermore, Al-Kabbanah frontline in Jabal Al-Akrad, north of Latakia witnessed an exchange of mortar shelling between Al-Fath Al-Mubin factions and regime forces.

On July 6, SOHR activists reported that Russian fighter jets had carried out ten airstrikes, targeting Al-Ruwayha, Shanan, Sarjah, Bayanin and its forest in southern Idlib countryside.
