Abandoning newborns | Residents find newborn girl abandoned in Al-Maidan neighbourhood in Damascus

Damascus province: SOHR activists have reported that residents of Damascus city found a newborn girl, who was abandoned by her parents for unknown reasons, in front of Abo Ayob Al-Ansary Mosque in Al-Maidan neighbourhood in the Syrian capital, and she was taken to an orphanage in Qodsiyah neighbourhood in Damascus.

This comes in light of the growing phenomenon of abandoning newborns by their parents, for many reasons, in light of the ongoing war in the country.

This is the 29th case of abandoning newborns since 2022, in different areas in regime-held areas, and the 9th case in SDF-held areas.
