Rising tension | Armed group encircles SDF checkpoint while SDF bring in reinforcement to Deir Ezzor countryside

Deir Ezzor province: SOHR sources have reported that SDF members stationed at a checkpoint in Jazarat Al-Bohmayd village arrested a young man for “having a weapon and refusing to stop at the checkpoint.”

According to sources, SDF members confiscated the weapon and brutally beat the young man, after he had opened fire on the checkpoint and injured an SDF member.

Meanwhile, a group of gunmen, relatives of the arrested young man, encircled the checkpoint and clashed with the SDF members stationed there.

Following this attack, SDF brought in large reinforcement to the area, blocked the main streets, established checkpoints in that region and started indiscriminate arrests in houses near the checkpoint. SDF also arrested several women who were arrested a short time later.

On August 4, SOHR activists reported that the residents in Deir Ezzor countryside had been protesting for days and demanding the release of detained members of Deir Ezzor Military Council, despite the fact that the commander of the Military Council explained the reasons for the arrest of the members.

According to the commander of Deir Ezzor Military Council, the members had been arrested for violating military systems and regulations.

The residents in Al-Ezbet city blocked roads with burning tyres, renewing their demand for the immediate release of military detainees.
