Turkish drone attacks in week | 15 people killed and injured in eight attacks on SDF-held areas

Turkey has escalated its aerial operations on areas under the control of the Autonomous Administration in north and north-east Syria in the first week of August.

From August 3 till August 9, Turkish Air Force waged eight drone attacks, targeting vehicles, outposts, and a popular market in Al-Hasakah countryside.

These attacks left nine people dead; they are as follows:

• Two children
• seven SDF combatants

In addition, at least six people sustained injuries; the death toll is believed to rise.

Here are further details of the Turkish drone attacks:

• August 3: A SDF member of Tel Tamr military council was killed by a Turkish drone strike in the Assyrian village of Tel Tamr, north-west of Al-Hasakah.

• August 6: Two children and two SDF combatants were killed by a Turkish drone attack that hit a car in Al-Sina’a area of Al-Qamishli.

• August 8: A Turkish drone strike hit a position near a checkpoint at western Darbasiyah entrance.

• August 8: A Turkish drone targeted another position in Darbasiyah countryside near the Syria-Turkey border.

• August 8: A Turkish drone hit the communications tower in Abu Rasin district, putting the tower out of service.

• August 9: A Turkish drone waged an attack on a house in Al-Kharzah village in Darbasiyah countryside at the Syrian-Turkish border in Al-Hasakah province, causing material damage only.

• August 9: Four fighters working in trenches and tunnels were killed by two Turkish drone strikes on two posts in northern Al-Qamishli near the border with Turkey in Al-Hasakah province.

Accordingly, the number of attacks carried out by Turkish drones on areas controlled by the “Autonomous Administration in northern and north-eastern Syria, AANES” since early 2022 has reached 50. These attacks left three civilians, including two children, and 37 combatants, including two children and 13 females and four unidentified men, dead, while over 77 others sustained various injuries. Here is a monthly distribution of attacks by Turkish drones in 2022:

• January: Three attacks left three people dead and 13 others injured.

• February: Ten attacks killed eight people, including two children and a young female fighter, and injured 21 others.

• March: Two attacks injured two people.

• April: 11 attacks left six people dead, including three women, and 19 others injured.

• May: Four attacks left three people dead, including a woman, and seven others injured.

• June: Three attacks left a combatant dead and five others injured.

• July: Three attacks left a civilian and 13 combatants, including seven women, dead and ten others injured.

• August: Eight attacks left two children, four unidentified men and three SDF fighters dead.
