SOHR: IS Commander Blows Himself Up in Syria’s Daraa

An Iraqi Islamic State (IS) commander on Tuesday blew himself up inside a house in Syria’s Daraa, a monitor said.

The Iraqi national, named “Abu Salim al-Iraqi”, was accused of being an Islamic State commander. He had been hiding in western Daraa countryside near al-Jolan since 2018, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said.

“He blew himself up after being sieged by regime forces and local fighters in a house in Adwan town in western Daraa countryside,” SOHR added.

According to the Britain-based monitoring group, clashes erupted between the sides, which also left several others injured among the IS suspects.

The monitor cited “reliable” source as saying that the IS commander had participated in assassination attacks against security forces and civilian in the region.
