Latest developments | Clashes renew between regime forces and local gunmen in Tafas city

Daraa province: SOHR Activists have reported renewed violent clashes with heavy and medium machineguns between gunmen from Tafas city and regime forces following attempts by regime forces to advance into the southern outskirts of Tafas city. However, no casualties have been reported.

 

Observatory sources reported earlier this morning renewed confrontations between regime forces and their proxy militants on one hand, and local gunmen on the other in west Daraa countryside.

 

Meanwhile, plains around southern Tafas witnessed exchange of medium and heavy machinegun fire between regime forces and local gunmen.

 

Furthermore, regime forces fired mortars on that area, but no casualties were reported.

 

Yesterday, SOHR activists reported ongoing clashes in the vicinity of Tafas in the western countryside of Daraa between local gunmen on the one hand and regime forces and their proxy militias on the other.

 

According to SOHR activists, regime forces managed to control posts south of Tafas on Al-Yadouda road.

 

The clashes and regime attack triggered an exodus of residents from southern Tafas and left civilians injured.

 

Wednesday morning, SOHR activists reported that regime forces stationed in Al-Rai building targeted the southern plains surrounding Tafas city, in western Daraa countryside, with heavy machine guns in the early hours of Wednesday Morning.

 

Moreover, regime forces and local gunmen exchanged medium machine gun fire, in an attempt by the regime forces to advance in the area. This development comes 48 hours after the suspects left Tafas city.

 

On August 9, SOHR activists reported that regime checkpoints allowed Tafs farmers to head to their farms and continue cultivating after preventing them for a few days when regime forces opened fire on them to intimidate them. However, no casualties were reported.

 

According to SOHR local sources, several regime suspects left Tafs city towards an unknown destination to avoid military escalation with the regime.

 

On August 6, SOHR activists reported that families were displaced from Tafs city and its farms to safer areas after the arrival of new reinforcements for the regime and the 15th Division, and after the establishment of a new checkpoint southern of Tafs city, coinciding with the arrival of reinforcements. Moreover, regime forces fired artillery shells and heavy machine guns in the area.

 

SOHR sources reported that regime forces shelled several farmlands and houses in Tafas city and Al-Yadoudah in the western countryside of Daraa with heavy weapons and tanks, amid attempts to advance into the southern neighbourhoods of Tafas city.
