ISIS resurgence | Unidentified gunmen attack SDF checkpoint in Deir Ezzor

Deir Ezzor province: SOHR activists have reported that unidentified gunmen, believed to be ISIS members, attacked an SDF checkpoint with “RPG” shells in Suwaydan village in eastern Deir Ezzor countryside, amid reports of clashes erupting between the unidentified gunmen and SDF members. However, no casualties have been reported yet.

On August 16, SOHR activists documented the death of an SDF member and the injury of others in an attack by unidentified gunmen, believed to be ISIS cells, on a military vehicle on Al-Karama road in eastern Al-Raqqa countryside.

This came in light of escalated ISIS activities in areas held by Autonomous Administration of North and North-east Syria.

SOHR has documented 119 operations carried out by ISIS, including armed attacks and explosions, in areas under the control of the Autonomous Administration since early 2022. According to SOHR statistics, these operations left 92 persons dead: 34 civilians and 58 members of SDF, the Internal Security Forces and other military formations operating in areas under the control of the Autonomous Administration.

It is worth noting that these attacks have not included the operation of Ghuwayran prison, which left heavy losses.
