SOHR: Unidentified missile strike targets US occupation base in Syria
On the night of 19 August, a military base of the US-led international coalition located next the Al-Omar oil field in Deir Ezzor governorate came under attack from an unknown source.
No casualties reported from the attack, according to the Syrian Observatory of Human Rights (SOHR). .
“It is likely that the missile comes from the area where the Iranian militias have influence in the west of the Euphrates,” said the SOHR.
Following the attack, coalition choppers flew extensively over the eastern countryside of oil-rich Deir Ezzor in search of the missile launch pads, Al-Mayadeen said citing local sources.
On 15 August, a drone attack was ‘repelled’ in coordination with Jaysh Maghawir Al-Thawra militants on Washington’s Al-Tanf military base southeast of the country, the US-led international coalition in Syria said in a statement.
Jaysh Maghawir Al-Thawra (MaT), is a US-trained and supported Syrian vetted opposition group operating in the 55 kilometer “de-escalation zone” around Al-Tanf, not far from the Syria-Jordan border.
Last month, twin explosions struck the surrounding of the Al-Omar oil field as a result of anonymous missile strikes that caused large fires in the area.
Washington occupies at least a dozen military bases in Syria, mostly in or near the oil and gas fields in Hasakah governorate and the eastern rural Deir Ezzor.
Syria, which has never authorized the presence of the US Army on its territory, accuses Washington of stealing its natural resources and seeking to revitalize ISIS, and therefore it demands the departure of the illegal foreign troops from Syrian soil.
The Syrian oil ministry said in a statement on 8 August that the average daily output of Syrian oil in the first half of 2022 is 80,300 barrels, while the US occupying forces stealing an average of 66,000 barrels a day, accounting for over 83 percent of Syria’s output.
According to the ministry, the prolonged crisis in Syria has cost Syria’s oil sector about $105 billion in direct and indirect losses.
