Drug trafficking | Jordan border guards thwart drug smuggling operation from Syria
SOHR activists have reported that clashes between Jordan forces and a group of smugglers erupted at dawn today, near the Syrian border village of Al-Sha’ab with Jordan over attempting to smuggle a shipment of drugs into Jordan.
These clashes left a number of smugglers injured, and led to thwarting the drug smuggling operation. The smugglers fled deep into Syrian territory.
It is worth noting that Lebanese Hezbollah militia relies on smugglers from the border area with Jordan and tribesmen to smuggle shipments of narcotics, weapons and others, in full view of regime forces.
On June 12, groups of drug traffickers affiliated with Lebanon’s Hezbollah and regime security services failed to smuggle a drug shipment into Jordan from the southeastern countryside of Al-Suwaidaa countryside, Syrian Observatory sources reported.
According to SOHR sources, clashes took place between smugglers and Jordanian army border guards after being ambushed and fled towards Syrian territory, leaving behind the shipment of drugs confiscated by Jordanian border guards.
