Fake news | SOHR refutes Russian allegation of killing 120 HTS members and destroying military camp in Idlib

“Yesterday, Russian fighter jets bombarded and completely destroyed a camp of “Jabhat Al-Nurah” terrorists, which is listed on designated terrorist groups list,” the Russian Defence Ministry announced on Friday.

“The Russian Airforce has destroyed a camp of Jabhat Al-Nusra terrorists in Al-Sheikh Yusuf area in Idlib, killing more than 120 terrorists,” Deputy Head of the Russian Coordination Center in Hmeimim military base, Oleg Egorov, said in a press release.

“The Russian airstrike left four terrorist drone observation posts, launch units and nearly 20 manual drones prepared by the terrorists to carry out attacks on the facilities of Russian units in Syria disrupted,” Oleg Egorov added.

In response to the Russian military official’s remarks, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) confirms the falsehood of these allegations, which are intended to legitimize the ongoing targeting of civilians in Idlib by Russian airstrikes under the pretext of terrorist groups planning attacks on Russian units in Syria.

Yesterday, SOHR activists documented the death of seven civilians and the injury of 15 others in Russian airstrikes, targeting a stone saw mill and a house at the outskirts of Al-Sheikh Youssef and Hafsarjah villages and areas in Sahl Al-Roj, west of Idlib city. The area was also hit by a surface-to-surface missile loaded with cluster bombs.

Between the 30th of September 2015 and the 30th of August 2022, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights documented the death of 21,094 persons. The breakdown of fatalities is as follows:

8,690 civilians: 2,112 children under the age of eighteen, 1,321 females over the age of eighteen, 5,257 men and young people

6,179 ISIS members

6,225 fighters of rebel and Islamic Factions, Hayyaat Tahrir Al-Sham, the Islamist Turkestan Party, and fighters of Arab and foreign nationalities.
