SOHR: 105 Murders In Syrian Government-Held Areas In August

 

Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) reported on Saturday that areas held by Syrian government forces witnessed during August intensified violence, kidnappings and arbitrary arrests.

During August the SOHR report documented 105 murders in areas held by the government forces and its backed militias.

The toll of civilian victims is 43 ones, including the following:

Fourteen people lost their lives in incidents of security chaos in Daraa, southern Syria.

Twelve people including a woman and two children were killed.

Landmines claimed the lives of 10 people including eight children.

In addition, three people lost their lives at the hands of “regime-backed militias,” a man were killed by a grenade explosion, and a man was killed in unknown circumstances.

Two men also died under torture in prisons run by the government forces.

The toll of the casualties of military members is 29 including the following:

Ten members lost their lives in incidents of security chaos in Daraa.

Eight members lost their lives at the hands of the militants of Islamic State Organization (ISIS).

Four members lost their lives at the hands of unknown gunmen.

Israeli airstrikes claimed the lives of five members.

In addition, an officer was killed in ambiguous circumstances and a member was killed in clashes with smugglers.

The toll of gunmen who lost their lives is 11 including the following:

Eight former fighters of opposition factions, as one of them died under torture in a prison run by the government forces and the rest were killed in incidents of security chaos in Daraa.

Five ISIS militants, including a commander who blew himself up in Daraa and the rest were killed in Russian airstrikes on Syria’s desert.

Three Iranian-backed militants were killed by ISIS and another was assassinated.

Three militants of Lebanese Hezbollah were assassinated in Rif Dimashq.

A former ISIS militant was killed in an incident of security chaos in Daraa.

A Russian-backed militant was killed in an incident of security chaos in Daraa.

Regarding to kidnappings and arrests, the SOHR documented 13 arbitrary arrests during August by the government forces, including three children, as well as three kidnapping cases.

The government forces arrested a man at a checkpoint in the countryside of Daraa, two men in the town of Kafr Hawar in Qatana district in Rif Dimashq and three men after returning from abroad and areas are not held by the government forces.

In addition, the government forces arrested six people in government-held areas in Hasakah governorate, northeastern Syria, and a doctor from Deir ez-Zor Governorate, eastern Syria, while he was heading to Damascus.

Concerning to kidnappings documented in August, a little girl, Jawa Istanbuli, was kidnapped in Homs Governorate, central Syria, before she was found dead a few days later.

In addition, a man from Homs was kidnapped in the northern countryside of Suwayda Governorate, southern Syria.

A civilian from the town of Mhajjah in Daraa countryside was kidnapped by unidentified gunmen, while he was heading from Damascus to Suwayda.

Kidnappers usually ask for a ransom of $10.000.
