Factional infighting | Clashes erupt between two Iranian-backed militia groups near Iraqi border east of Deir ez-Zor

Deir Ezzor province: SOHR sources have reported that armed clashes erupted over the past hours between two groups of Iranian-backed militias in Al-Bokamal city in eastern Deir Ezzor countryside, near Syria-Iraq border.

The causes of this armed fighting remain unknown. These clashes also resulted in injuries, amid information that at least one person was killed.

This comes in light of disputes between militias over smuggling routes.

Yesterday, SOHR activists, in Al-Mayadeen “Iranian colony” in west Euphrates region, reported that Iranian-backed militias, especially non-Syrian ones, ordered their members to dramatically limit their movements in Al-Mayadeen city for fear of possible attack.

According to SOHR sources, militiamen left their headquarters and bases only when necessary and take their caution, for fear of assassinations.
