Growing numbers of cholera cases | Health Commission in Deir Ezzor makes urgent appeal to provide support

Deir Ezzor province: The Health Committee and the Organization Office in western Deir Ezzor province make a distress appeal to the concerned authorities to support the health sector to provide health support to the Western Deir Ezzor sector following the outbreak of cholera and the increasing number of infected cases, which increased the burden on the health sector in the region.

The text of the statement, a copy of which has been obtained by SOHR, reads, as follows: “We, the Health Committee and the Organization Office in the Western Region, Deir Ezzor Civil Council, the Health and Humanitarian Organizations Authority and the World Health Organization, appeal for rapid intervention and support to the health sector in the Western Region and to provide medicines, serums, beds and medical supplies.

Due to the rapid increase in cases of cholera, the number of infected cases is ranged between 38-46 cases a day. Al-Kasra Hospital and health centres no longer accommodate these cases, so we call for quick medical support so that we can control the disease.”

During the past few days, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) monitored the outbreak of cholera in the western countryside of Deir Ezzor, monitored the number of deaths and infected cases and identified the causes of the outbreak through various medical sources and SOHR activists in the region.

On September 11, SOHR sources reported that the number of people who died of Cholera in Deir Ezzir province had increased to six. On the other hand, the number of infections has dramatically increased. According to SOHR sources, two persons from Khesham town died today, after having arrived in “Al-Assad” hospital in Deir Ezzor a few days ago.

Reliable SOHR sources have also reported that the number of cholera cases increases gradually, where some cases are transported to hospitals in Al-Raqqah. The director of Al-Raqqah hospital has told SOHR that the hospital received 15 cases, after having infected in Deir Ezzor province.

It is worth noting that the deaths are distributed in areas under the control of the Syrian regime and areas held by SDF in north-east Syria region.
