Security vacuum | IED explosion targets “Imam” in Daraa city

Daraa province: SOHR activists have reported hearing an explosion in Tariq Al-Sadd neighbourhood in Daraa city this morning. According to SOHR sources, the explosion was caused by the detonation of an IED in the car of an “Imam” (a preacher) of a mosque in that neighbourhood. The explosion, which caused material damage only, comes as a part of the escalating security chaos across Daraa province.

 

Yesterday, SOHR activists reported that unidentified gunmen opened machinegun fire on a regime military bus near Nawa city, west of Daraa. According to reliable SOHR sources, the attack on the bus, which carried four regime soldiers, left the driver and another soldier injured, before the driver managed to escape.

 

Since early 2022, the number of attacks documented by SOHR in Daraa province has risen to 378, which left 317 people dead; and they are as follows:

 

  • 151 civilians, including four women and five children.

 

  • 130 regime military personnel, “collaborators” with security services and members with settled-status working for regime services and backed militias.

 

  • 21 former fighters who did not join any military formation, after striking reconciliation deals.

 

  • Four ex-ISIS member.

 

  • Seven unidentified people.
