SOHR: Turkish-Backed Militants Rape, Kill Kid In Syria’s Sere Kaniye

On Wednesday, militants of the Turkish-backed armed Syrian opposition factions, also known as Syrian National Army (SNA), kidnapped a child in the city of Sere Kaniye, to be found killed later after being raped.

A local source told North Press that Soqour al-Shamal faction, a military group of the SNA, kidnapped the Iraqi child Yasin Mahmoud.

Hours after kidnapping, his body was found dumped nearby his house in the neighborhood of al-Mahtta in Sere Kaniye, killed via a sharp device, according to the source.

After examining the child’s body, a medical report revealed that he was subjected to sexual assault before being killed by cutting the neck artery.

Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) said in a report that Mustafa Salama, from the city of Suran in the northern countryside of Hama, is the one who carried out the crime against the Iraqi child.

However, reasons behind this crime are still unidentified and perpetrators remain at large, according to the source.

The crime sparked resentment and condemnation among activists on social media sites, describing it as “heinous crime”.

They called for implementing retribution on those criminals, while others demanded the Turkish-backed SNA factions leave the entire region after a significant increase in their violations, including looting, theft, kidnapping, ongoing fighting and killing.

In October 2019, Turkish forces, with the support of the SNA factions, launched the military operation “Peace Spring” against the cities of Sere Kaniye and Tel Abyad under the pretext of pushing the fighters of the Kurdish-majority Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) away from the Turkish border with Syria.

As a result, they seized many lands in the abovementioned cities and displaced approximately 300.000 civilians, human rights reports said.

The Turkish-occupied areas in north and northeastern Syria continue to witness a state of security chaos and instability amid the SNA factions’ inability to maintain the security.
